The 26th Dark Carpathian installment (after Dark Wolf) goes over the top with magic, battles, passion, and a multitude of characters. Dark Blood warrior Zev, a fierce hunter of rogue Lycans, wakes up in the cave of warriors with a weakened body and muddled mind. The calming presence of Branislava, a Dragonseeker mage with her own strong warrior aspect, helps him adjust as he learns that he has been revived early from a healing sleep to help his people fight an unknown threat. After Branislava realizes that she and Zev are—quite improbably—lifemates, their complex bond becomes unshakable as they face implacable enemies, impossible demands, and an uncertain future. Series followers will be pleased with the appearance of previous characters as well as with the adventures of this new couple, but new readers should start with earlier titles.
