But neither can deny the electricity that sizzles between them, or the storms they must weather and the love that grows once they are wed. Sexy, full of action, and realistically violent, this story of 17th-century Scotland touches on issues of family loyalty and duty and expertly kicks off McCarty's back-to-back "Clan Campbell" trilogy. McCarty, who lives in California, has written several other well-regarded Scottish romances (e.g., "Highlander Unchained").
